On Fire Arabians began with one Polish Arabian Mare and we had no intention of showing or breeding that mare. Our ranch was located at the base of the Greenhorn Mountains just south of Pueblo, Colorado and we needed to fill a corral with ranch horses. The Arabian had all of the attributes that make a great ranch horse, particularly stamina for the mountainsides. There were miles of fence to ride and lots of beautiful country to see. Breeding Arabians for any reason was the farthest from our minds!
Dr. Deb is a small animal veterinarian and rode horses for fun. My background was in the Thoroughbred racing industry working at the Jockey Club in New York. Dr. Deb was unfamiliar with the Arabian Breed and the only Arabian I ever knew we played Polo on. Frankly, she was a fistful to ride but oh so beautiful! Every day we drew straws to determine who had to ride her. She could really buck!
Our focus remained true to the Polish lineage until we purchased our first straight Egyptian filly from Shawn Crews at Arabians, LTD. This time a filly was not purchased for farm use but for showing. We got serious about breeding Arabian mares and Minstril's Pearl became our foundation Broodmare. She is the dam of our beautiful Marajj colt named Maximo OFA. Over the years On Fire Arabians expanded the show herd and started competing in class A shows. We have successfully shown several mares to championships in halter and our stallion did the same.
We remain a small breeding operation with under ten broodmares and one Versace stallion name Ferragamo WP. We purchased Ferragamo as a yearling with the intention of showing him in halter to the highest level he could go. Exel he did and we have competed all the way to Nationals, both in Halter and Western Pleasure. He has sired 3 foals. Two of them have shown in halter and their ribbons hang on our office wall. After four years of retirement, Ferragamo will return to the show ring with Brookville Arabians and Jordan Simons leading his way. We plan for Ferragamo to return to the breeding shed again this time standing at Brookville Arabians. We absolutely cannot wait to see what he can do as a mature stallions.
This year we will have two foals. Minstril's Pearl will have a Staarwan foal and our Ecaho daughter will have an Audacious PS foal. Both animals should be of utmost beauty. Next year our Ferragamo fillies will be bred and we will see what they can do! Quality is not an accident and we have been precise when determining which stallion will fit our mares. So far we have bred five foals. All of them are a very good reflections of this philosophy.
We look forward to our future with Brookville Arabians. Using our past relationship with Brookville as our barometer, there is every indication that we have a lot to look forward too!
