Our journey with the Arabian horse began over two years ago with riding lessons for our son Dylan at a local stable near our home.  At the stable Annabella and David bought for him a former dressage horse named Brown Sugar for $1.00 and another rescued Clydesdale named Tucker. Who we found living in someone's backyard and garage.

When David asked Annabella what type of horse she would love to own, she stated to me without hesitation, an Arabian horse.

From the time the Arabian Horse ran wild in the desert, they were the swiftest and most disciplined horse that existed.

David Gelbard and Tucker

As Bedouin legend says "And God took a handful of Southwind and from it formed a horse, saying I create thee, Oh Arabian, to thy forelock, I bind victory in battle.  On thy back, I set a rich soil and a treasure in thy loins.  I establish thee as one of the glories of the Earth.  I give thee flight without wings".

Unanimous National Champion Ames Charisma

Our first National Championship with Ames Charisma, as Unanimous National Champion Yearling Colt in 2003, may not have come at all if not for being at the right place at the right time.

While looking at Mardie Gras, our first horse purchased, David and Annabella went to see other horses in the barn.  Coming out of the wash rack was this beautiful yearling colt dripping wet.  Annabella's eyes met Charisma's eyes and her immediate reaction was that this horse needs to be a part of our life.  By the end of the day Ames Charisma (Magnum Psyche by Ames Mirage) was ours.  Four months later, he was Region 13 Champion Yearling colt.

Sitting in the stands that October morning in Albuquerque, we were very excited.  When Ames Charisma entered the ring, he was a sight to see.

We waited for the judge's decision and then it was announced, "Judge Hatfield, Ames Charisma, Judge Petty, Ames Charisma, and Judge Vincent, Ames Charisma, Your unanimous National Champion, Ames Charisma".  At that moment we were filled with tears of joy.

To have achieved something so special in such a short period of time was truly amazing.

We have been participating in the major futurity programs and feel this adds marketability to Charisma's foals and helps promote the Arabian horse to a wider audience.  We suggest to all stallion and mare owners to get involved even if it's within your own local club.

We have been very fortunate this year in finding a wide variety of mares to breed to Ames Charisma.  We purchased Mardie Gras (Magnum Psyche by Louisinia) and her half-sister Jambalia (Dark Victory by Louisinia) and Ames Fantasy (Brass by Deserey).  When our breeding manager approached us on a group of Mares that were becoming available for purchase, we were thrilled to add this collection to our broodmare band.  They include Ciara Bey (Bey Shah by TW Forteyna), Fortunes Ciara (Wind Fortune x Ciara Bey), two (2) Simeon Sanegor daughters, two (2) Versace daughters and 3 Padrons Psyche daughter’s .

Our goal at Brookville Arabians is of course to breed a better overall Arabian horse, however beautiful headed Arabians with excellent tail carriage, animation and type are very important as well.  Without those elements it's just another pretty horse.  Conformation is very important and we feel that a halter horse should be able to perform and that performance horses should be able to halter as well.  And that is our goal at Brookville Arabians, beautiful balanced Arabians.  When people drive by our ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona and see our horses in the pastures, we want them to say "Beautiful Arabians", not, "I wonder what type of horses they are?"

Our main purpose at Brookville at the moment is the promotion of Charisma and the beautiful mares that have been bred to him.  We are very excited to have such a beautiful collection of mares in foal to him.  We also look forward to the development of our long-term breeding program incorporating, world-class halter horses and English Pleasure horses and the promotion of the Arabian horse.

Our advice to new breeders around the world is to follow your dreams and set your goals.

In the end David & Annabella would like to be remembered as two people who dedicated themselves to preserve the integrity of the Arabian horse.
